Anti-Dumping

The Chinese footwear industry, which has long been overshadowed by the EU's anti-dumping, is expected to hit the clouds.

Under the efforts of the Chinese lobbying group, which is mainly a member of the Wenzhou footwear business, the 15 member countries voted against the proposal to extend anti-dumping duties on Chinese and Vietnamese leather shoes recently, at a thematic consultation meeting attended by 27 EU Member States, which rejected the proposal with a result of 15: 12.

It is learnt that the European Union announced on 2006 that 16.5% and 10% punitive tariffs would be imposed on Chinese and Vietnamese leather shoes respectively, which will expire in October this year.

At the request of Italy and other countries, Mandelson, a member of the European Union in charge of trade, proposed to extend anti-dumping measures.

In order to save the losses of enterprises, the Zhejiang foreign trade and Economic Cooperation Department organized lobbies to actively lobby the European countries in order to win more support from EU member countries before the conference was held in the EU.

The officials of the trade and relief Department of the European Commission expressed their understanding and took the voice to the Consultative Conference, thus playing a direct and effective role in voting against the extension of anti-dumping measures.
